Background
Pediatric pressure ulcer incidence and prevalence is not as clearly described in literature as that of the adult population. To comply with mandates from The Joint Commission, Institutes for Healthcare Improvement and other state and national driven initiatives, pediatric pressure ulcer prevention programs are being rapidly implemented across the country.
Methods / Conclusions
We will describe the challenges encountered in the development of just such a prevention program in the pediatric oncologic setting. We will include the specific needs of this population, with the planning stages for both staff education and family education. The final implementation of the program including the transition to online documentation and referrals will be detailed. Specifics on the education tools used will be highlighted, as well as, hospital wide quality improvement data collection and reporting processes.
