APWCA - Haiti Relief Efforts
We thank you for you for your participation and your
ability to provide relief for the all-to-many people that require medical
services, many of which, are suffering as a result of multiple types of wounds.
We are collaborating with Dr. Robert Kirsner, who is working with the
University of Miami in the deployment for volunteers in relief services.
Below you will find all the information you need to participate with the program.
Note that almost 60 members have responded as APWCA Relief volunteers and we
have had additionally 15 members who have already been on site in the area of
Port au Prince, Haiti. I am sure that you are aware, but it bears
repeating, that the area that you will be visiting, is certainly not secured.
As time progresses, there is potential of increasing violence, as people become
more desperate for medical and food services. Hopefully this will be
minimal, as these services become more readily accessible by improved channels
to dispense supplies and services. There is the potential for future
earth tremors as the area is unstable and it is unpredictable if another large
earthquake may occur again. Be sure to follow-up with local infectious
disease consultants for proper immunization if you have not already done so.
The above said, we trust that those who are able to help will find this a very
rewarding experience, and certainly a memorable one. In order to
initiate the application process, please note the following 2-Step
process that is required by Dr. Kirsner and his team to setup deployment
schedules. This includes a requirement by the Department of Homeland
Security that all involved in the program apply through a central online
database. Once this is complete, all future deployment coordination will
be handled by Dr. Kirsner's team:
