APWCA - Membership Information (Fellow Grandfathering)
From the APWCA inception, April 1, 2001 and prior to January 1, 2008, the
APWCA recognized Fellows only based on the following criteria: board certification in
their own field of medicine, practicing wound care for a minimum of 2 years,
maintaining state licensure, paying annual membership dues, and obtaining wound
care CME credit as required by APWCA.
The Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET) began credentialing
physicians during 2008. Between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 physicians
were able to become Fellows of APWCA through 2 pathways.
- By the previous set of guidelines (above); based upon board certification
in field of practice
- Being credentialed and certified through CMET
As of January 1, 2009 the original pathway is closed and physicians as of
that date are only able to become APWCA Fellows by becoming credentialed as
“Physician Certified in Wound Care – CMET”.
All fellows, independent of when they joined the Association and the pathway
utilized to become a Fellow, must continue to maintain state licensure, maintain
annual membership dues, and obtaining wound care CME credit as required by
APWCA.
