Don’t Get Stuck in the Inflammatory Phase:
A Combination Protocol for Wound Healing
by Dr. Alison Garten DPM, DAPD, CWSP, CPED

Chronic wounds pose a significant healthcare challenge leading to delayed healing. This presentation delves into the multifaceted understanding of chronic wound environments, emphasizing the role of biofilms in prolonging inflammation. During this discussion, we will review approaches in disrupting biofilm and facilitating wound healing through its antimicrobial properties. We will also discuss approaches for the removal of necrotic /fibrotic tissue and promoting granulation tissue. Using a combination protocol, healthcare providers can address chronic wound pathophysiology, moving wounds out of the inflammatory phase to the proliferation phase of healing.
